Learn it. Practice it. Live it.

Group Yoruba Classes
Yoruba should be more than a language our children hear around them. We want them to understand it, speak it, and feel connected to the culture and identity it carries.
ABD Club’s Group Yoruba Classes are designed for children learning Yoruba in the diaspora and beyond. Through structured instruction, conversation, guided practice and cultural context, children build practical Yoruba skills they can actually use.
Learning at the Right Level
Not simply the right age.
Two children of the same age can have completely different experiences with Yoruba. One may understand almost everything spoken at home but struggle to respond. Another may be hearing and learning Yoruba intentionally for the first time.
That’s why ABD Club uses proficiency-based placement rather than age alone.
Beginner
For children with little or no Yoruba understanding or speaking ability. They may know a few greetings, songs or familiar words but are still building their foundation.
Intermediate
For children who understand some Yoruba and can use familiar words, greetings, phrases and simple sentences.
Advanced
For children who understand Yoruba well and are ready to strengthen conversation, expression, vocabulary and more confident communication.
During registration, parents select the level that best describes their child. We may adjust placement after observing the child so that every learner is appropriately challenged and supported.
How the Program Works
A 4-Month Learning Term
Each term gives children time to learn, practice, apply and build on their knowledge.
2 Instructor-Led Classes Each Month
Guided Practice Between Lessons
Video & Speaking Practice
Children participate in structured live lessons with their instructor, combining Yoruba language instruction with opportunities to listen, speak and interact.
Children continue learning between instructor-led sessions through structured activities and assignments.
Where appropriate, children can demonstrate what they’ve learned through video responses and other activities on Wayground.
Because our goal isn’t simply for children to attend Yoruba lessons. Our goal is for them to use Yoruba.
What Will My Child Learn?
Children progressively build skills across the foundations of Yoruba language and communication.
Yoruba alphabet & sounds
days & months
word formation
tones & pronunciation
sentence building
greetings
parts of speech
numbers
listening & comprehension
colors
family
everyday vocabulary
Yoruba expressions & proverbs
culture & values
conversation
Lessons are designed to build on one another so children aren’t simply memorizing disconnected vocabulary.
They learn to understand how Yoruba works—and how to use it.
From Knowing Yoruba to Using Yoruba
A child may know that “Ẹ káàárọ̀” means good morning.
But language learning goes further than translation.
When should they say it?
How should they respond?
How do they greet an elder?
How do they introduce themselves?
How do they answer a simple question about their day?
ABD Club incorporates practical situations that help children move from knowing Yoruba words to communicating in Yoruba.
